Product Description

A core component of the ABB Procontrol P14 system, a veteran in power plant automation.

Application

The module is used for stored-program analog control of one or two process variables. It’s equipped with two continuous outputs for output of the correcting variables. It can control various types of actuators such as electrohydraulic actuators, electropneumatic actuators, and electric-motor-powered drives. These drives are positioned either locally at the transducer or within a continuously operating power electronics system in the case of electric-motor-powered actuators. Additionally, it’s possible to supplement the single variable analog controls with a higher-level master control system. The module is intended for use in connection with the process operator station. It incorporates function blocks for implementing continuous single variable controllers, with additional function blocks available for signal conditioning.

In the analog control mode, the module operates with fixed cycle times of 100 ms for one actuator and 200 ms for two actuators. The cycle time is specified by the function block KON, which is the first block to appear in the structure. The module incorporates two hardware process interfaces for the power controller units and the process.

  • The module is ready for operation as soon as a valid user list is loaded.
  • For communication with the process and the switchgear, the module requires specific voltages:
    • USA/USB operating voltage: +24 V, internally branched into:
      • UK1 supply of contacts of process interface 1
      • UK2 supply of contacts of process interface 2
      • S11/S13 supply of transducer of process interface 1
      • S21/S23 supply of transducer of process interface 2
    • These voltages are short-circuit-proof and designed to prevent any interaction.
  • The operating voltages and the external logic signals are related to the reference conductor Z.
  • Annunciations on the front panel of the module are indicated by LEDs:
    • ST disturbance: signals any disturbance in the module and in data communication with the module.
    • SG module disturbance: signals module disturbances only.
