ABB RED615 Product Details

RED615 is a split-phase line differential protection relay(intelligent protection and measurement and control device)designed for power system distribution networks,including closed-loop and multi-power supply systems.It is developed and designed on a new platform based on the IEC 61850 protocol,fundamentally supporting interoperability and horizontal communication of station equipment without the need for additional communication modules.

Main functions

Protection function

Split-phase ratio brake differential protection:Provides two-stage split-phase line differential protection,including ratio brake stage and fast-acting stage.

Overcurrent protection:Provides four-stage phase current protection,including low set value stage,high set value stage and instantaneous stage.

Phase unbalance protection and phase loss protection:Provide two-stage phase unbalance protection and phase loss protection.

Circuit breaker failure protection:Provide protection when the circuit breaker fails.

Inrush current detection:Integrate relay self-locking and second harmonic filtering functions for inrush current conditions to prevent false operation.

Control function

Circuit breaker control:Provide local and remote circuit breaker control functions,and support circuit breaker control with interlocking function.

Status monitoring:Includes control loop monitoring,which can monitor 2 closing and opening coils,as well as the three-phase current on this side and the opposite side(for coordinated differential protection).

Communication function

IEC 61850 communication:Supports IEC 61850 communication standards,including GOOSE information,to achieve efficient and stable end-to-end horizontal communication.

Modbus communication:Supports industrial communication standard Modbus 3.0.

Fiber optic communication:Supports fiber optic communication interfaces,such as glass fiber ST interface,to achieve high-speed data transmission.

Switching signal transmission

BST signal transmission:used to transmit interlocking,tripping,and some status and position signals between the near and far ends of the line.The transmission of BST signals is bidirectional,and the transmission time is very short(transmission delay is within 5 milliseconds).

Hardware monitoring:integrated detection and watchdog functions are used to manage equipment hardware and software,as well as communication systems and circuit breaker tripping and closing circuits.

CT line break interlock:The hardware monitoring objects include current transformers(CTs).CT failures can cause line differential protection misoperation and phase imbalance protection misoperation.The CT line break interlock function of RED615 can quickly shield related protection actions when the CT signal is abnormal to prevent accidents.

Quick installation:Common feeder protection logic has been pre-set,and users can quickly install and test and accept it by simply setting it after unpacking.

Plug-in design:The plug-in design is adopted to facilitate users to install test relays and improve efficiency.During the factory commissioning and acceptance test phase,users can easily extract and put back the relay card from the front panel.

Diagnostic function:The sensitivity of the diagnostic function and the relay reset function can be flexibly selected according to user needs.If a long-term interference occurs or the communication channel is completely interrupted,the relay will send an alarm signal to the grid operator and start the backup protection plan.
