The ICS T8311 Trusted TMR Expander Interface Module is a control system module that is usually installed in a Trusted Controller chassis. It serves as the primary interface to connect the Inter-Module Bus (IMB) and the Expander Bus in the chassis, supporting the expansion of multi-chassis systems via Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP).
Function & Features
- TMR Fault-Tolerant Architecture: The T8311 utilizes a triple-module redundant (TMR) architecture in a lockstep configuration, achieving redundancy through three independent fault containment zones (FCR A, B, and C). Each zone includes an expander bus interface, an inter-module bus (IMB) interface, active/standby mode interfaces, control logic, communication transceivers, and power supplies.
- Inter-Module Bus (IMB): The T8311 communicates with the TMR processor via the controller chassis backplane. All transactions are voted on, localizing faults to the IMB.
- Expander Bus: The T8311 utilizes a triple point-to-point architecture to communicate with the TMR expander processor in the expander chassis. Each bus channel contains independent command and response media, and a voting mechanism at the interface is tolerant to cable failures.
