The Woodward 9907-162 is a microprocessor based controller that is part of the Woodward 505 series digital speed controllers, designed to control rotating machinery in various industrial applications, especially steam turbines. This controller has high precision and reliability, and adopts a modular design, making it highly scalable to meet various application needs.

The 9907-162 controller provides multiple control modes, including speed control, position control, pressure control, and flow control, to meet different control requirements. It can operate the turbine by using one to two separate stage actuators to drive the inlet steam valve. In addition, the controller also has various functions, such as automatic start sequence, critical speed avoidance, external alarm input, trip indication, dual speed and load dynamics, peak speed indication for overspeed trip, zero speed detection, remote droop, frequency dead zone, etc.

The 9907-162 controller also includes two redundant speed inputs that can accept magnetic pickup devices, eddy current probes, or proximity probes. It has analog inputs (8) and can be configured as any of the 27 functions. In addition, the device also has an additional 20 contact inputs, with the first four being used by default for closing, raising speed settings, resetting, and lowering speed settings.
