Product Description
Bently Nevada 24765-02-01 Case Expansion Transducer is a device used to measure thermal expansion on large turbines, primarily for monitoring the thermal expansion of the turbine casing. Case expansion is a critical position measurement parameter in turbine monitoring instrumentation (TSI). Case expansion (sometimes also called casing expansion) refers to the thermal expansion of the turbine casing during startup and online operation.
The 24765-02-01 case expansion sensor system is typically installed on the foundation opposite the turbine casing's connection point to the foundation, providing information on the casing's relative expansion relative to the foundation. The sensor system consists of a linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) housed in a waterproof protective housing.
Functions and features
- Dual-sensor configuration: The 24765-02-01 can simultaneously monitor the movement of two sliding feet on the machine housing. If one foot becomes stuck or obstructed, the housing can be distorted. The dual-sensor configuration allows a monitor (such as the 3500/45) to detect this discrepancy and generate an alarm.
- Monitoring Thermal Growth Differential: 24765-02-01 uses thermal expansion data to determine whether machine operating conditions exceed expected thermal expansion differentials. This ensures that the machine housing (stationary component) and rotor (rotating component) thermally expand at approximately the same rate.
- Rubbing Prevention: If the thermal expansion rates of the housing and rotor are inconsistent, the clearance between the moving and stationary components will disappear, leading to friction and catastrophic failure. The 24765-02-01 sensor provides early warning information.
